Turkmenistan tests first satellite

MARCH 25 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) — Turkmenistan has nearly completed work on building its first communications satellite, media reported. Quoting a Turkmen government statement, media reported that testing on the satellite had finished and that it would launch later this year.

Armenia woos hi-tech firms

MARCH 14 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) — In an attempt to boost its technology sector, Armenia’s government approved a law that will offer IT start-up companies a tax break. Under the package IT companies with less than 15 people will not be taxed on profit for three years. Earlier this year Armenia unveiled its version of the iPad — an Armtab.

Joint venture unveils Armenian tablet

FEB. 4 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) — Technology and Science Dynamics Inc. an Armenian-US joint venture, unveiled its much anticipated Armtab tablet. The Armtab has been heralded as a significant step for Armenia’s fledgling technology sector. The Armtab is similar in size to Apple’s iPad.

New tablet goes on sale in Armenia

DEC. 28 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) — ArmTab, the computer tablets produced in Armenia by an Armenian-US joint-venture, will go on sale in Yerevan priced $185, media reported. According to Armenia’s economy minister, Vahram Avanesian, 30,000 ArmTabs will be produced in the first year. The project is a major boost for Armenia’s technology industry.

Azerbaijan launches satellite

FEB. 4 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) – Azerbaijan launched its first communications satellite, media reported. The satellite, launched from French Guiana, potentially allows Azerbaijani to diversify away from its energy industry and branch out into communications and broadcasting for the South Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa.
