Tajik plane crashes in S. Sudan

NOV. 3 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – A Tajik registered Antonov-12 cargo plane crashed in south Sudan, killing 40 people. The plane had been owned by a Tajik company called Asia Airways but operated by an Armenian company called Ala International. (See page 8 for more)

Plane crash kills Armenians

NOV. 4 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Five Armenian crew members, including the pilot, were killed in plane crash in south Sudan. The Antonov-12 cargo plane, operated by Armenia’s Ala International, was carrying 40 people.

Three Kazakhs die in German air crash

MARCH 25 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Three Kazakhs and a Ukrainian opera singer born in Kazakhstan died in the Germanwings plane crash, the Kazakh foreign ministry said. The plane, carrying 150 people, crashed in the French Alps (March 24). It was flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf.

Plane crashes in southern Kazakhstan

JUNE 29 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) — A Soviet-era AN-2 plane crashed in southern Kazakhstan as it was irrigating a paddy field, media reported. One of the pilots of the AN-2, a single engine biplane, died in the crash and another was badly injured. Kazakhstan has modernised its fleet of planes although many still date back to the Soviet Union.

US plane crashes in Kyrgyzstan

MAY 3 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) – A US refuelling aircraft crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing all three crew members. The aircraft had taken off from the US airbase outside Bishkek. Some media reports said the plane exploded in mid-air before crashing into the ground near the border with Kazakhstan in the north of the country.

Plane crash kills 27 in Kazakhstan

DEC. 25 2012 (The Conway Bulletin) – Turganbek Stanbekov, the head of the Kazakh border guard security service, and 26 other military officials and crew died in a plane crash near Shymkent in southern Kazakhstan. Media reported that the plane had been trying to land at Shymkent airport in bad weather when it crashed.

Passenger plane crashes in Kyrgyzstan

DEC. 28 2011 (The Conway Bulletin) – A Kyrgyzstan Airlines plane carrying 86 people crashed on landing at Osh airport. The Soviet-era Tupolev Tu-134 flipped over, injuring 31 people. Nobody was killed. Kyrgyzstan has a poor air safety record. In Aug. 2008, 65 people died when a plane bound for Iran crashed after taking off from Bishkek.
