Earthquake strikes Tajikistan

DEC. 7 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale struck east Tajikistan shaking the capital Dushanbe more than 300km away, the US Geological Survey said. A Bulletin correspondent said that there had been no casualties and no major damage to buildings in Dushanbe.

Earthquake hits south Kyrgyzstan

NOV. 15 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale struck southern Kyrgyzstan, around 20km south-east of Osh, monitoring websites reported. There were no reports of casualties and it is not clear, yet, how deep the earthquake was.

Small earthquake hits Armenia

APRIL 6 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale shook northern Armenia. There were no causalities but the earthquake was recorded in Yerevan with a strength of 2 to 3 on the Richter Scale.

Bedymukhamedov to fly to Japan

MARCH 11 2015 (The Bulletin) – Underlining his credentials as a far more outward looking leader than his predecessor, Turkmen president Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said he would travel to Japan for a UN conference on disaster reduction. He’ll likely make time to meet with Japanese officials to improve relations too.

OCT. 4 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 6 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit north- central Azerbaijan, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). It was recorded at a relatively deep 5km. There were no fatalities.

Earthquake hits Turkmenistan, no deaths

JUNE 7 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude hit Turkmenistan, roughly 120km north of the port of Turkmenbasy, the US Geological Survey said.The earthquake was deep, 12.2km below the surface, and no injuries or deaths were reported. Central Asia is prone to earthquakes.

Earthquake hits Azerbaijan

FEB. 10 2014 (The Conway Bulletin) — An earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale hit central Azerbaijan. No casualties were reported but the earthquake underlined Azerbaijan’s vulnerability to tectonic shocks. The epicentre of the earthquake was roughly 200km from the capital Baku.

Earthquake jolts Kazakh city

MAY 30 2012 (The Conway Bulletin) – A shallow earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter Scale shook Almaty, 150km from the epicentre. Since then, local authorities have measured at least eight aftershocks although no serious damage has been reported. Last year a similar size earthquake panicked people living in the city.

Earthquake scares Azerbaijani people

MAY 7 2012 (The Conway Bulletin) – An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale and a series of aftershocks jolted Azerbaijan. The earthquake’s epicentre was in the rural northwest of the country around 450km from Baku. Local media reported that several hundred houses were damaged in the earthquake although nobody was killed.
