Turkmen port receives investment from Japan

JULY 22 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Japanese officials said they want to invest in the Caspian port of Turkmenbashi on the western shores of Turkmenistan. The port is currently being expanded and could become a major hub.

Kazakhstan signs deals with China

MARCH 27 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) –  On a trip to Beijing, Kazakh PM Karim Massimov signed deals with his Chinese counterpart, Li Keqiang, worth $23.6b. The deals covered a range of industries from steel and glass production to oil refining and hydropower. China and Kazakhstan have increased cooperation in the past few years.

Kazakhstan builds attack helicopters

JULY 18 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) — Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering, a joint venture set up in 2011 between Kazakhstan and Europe’s EADS, plans to start making attack helicopters by the end of 2013, officials said in Astana. According to press reports Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are interested in buying the helicopters.

Skoda expands operations in Kazakhstan

JULY 4 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) — Czech car-maker Skoda will start producing its saloon car the Octavia in Kazakhstan from this month, media reported, highlighting the Kazakh public’s growing demand for new cars. Skoda, owned by Germany’s Volkswagen, produces cars at a plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk, eastern Kazakhstan.

German company pulls out of Uzbekistan

AUG. 2 2012 (The Conway Bulletin) – Germany’s Daimler has pulled out of proposed bus making joint-venture with Uzbek state company Uzavtosanoat, media reported. A Daimler spokesperson cited tough economic conditions as the reason for pulling out of the deal although the environment for foreign investors in Uzbekistan has also become increasingly difficult.

Kazakhstan industrial output grows

SEPT. 8 2010 (The Conway Bulletin) — Kazakhstan unexpectedly doubled its industrial output forecast for 2010 to 7.5% because of a sharp boom in production in mining and processing industries such as chemicals, foods and machine-building. In the first 6 months of 2010 Kazakh GDP grew by 8%.
