Tokayev makes trip to Paris, first by a Kazakh leader in 7 years

NOV. 29 2022 (The Bulletin) — Kazakh Pres. Kassym Jomart Tokayev flew to Paris to meet with French Pres. Emmanuel Macron from Moscow where he had been meeting with Vladimir Putin on his first foreign trip after winning a presidential election. The visit to Paris was an important reminder that Kazakhstan has reorientated its foreign policy towards the West since the Kremlin invaded Ukraine. It was the first visit by a Kazakh leader to Paris for seven years. The week before, Uzbek Pres. Shavkat Mirzioyev had also been in Paris.
