Kazakhstan imprisons former security chief

APRIL 24 2023 (The Bulletin) — A closed court in Kazakhstan on Monday imprisoned Karim Masimov, the former chairman of the National Security Committee and a former PM, to 18 years in prison for treason and plotting a coup.

Masimov was arrested in January 2022 during a struggle for power triggered by mass street protests. He is considered close to former president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
