At least 45 Kazakh miners killed in explosion

OCT. 30 2023 (The Bulletin) — Rescue workers in Kazakhstan confirmed on Monday that they have now recovered at least 45 bodies from an explosion at a mine in the centre of the country.

Kazakh Pres. Kassym Jomart Tokayev has declared a day of mourning.

This is the second deadly accident involving a mine owned by Luxembourg-registered ArcelorMittal since August. The Kazakh government has said that it wants to take over ArcelorMittal’s mines and the steel works that it owns.
