Kazakhstan increased gold reserves

JUNE 25 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Kazakhstan increased its gold reserves for the 32nd month in a row, the IMF said. Kazakhstan’s gold reserves measure 203.4 tonnes. Despite spending heavily to protect the tenge, the Kazakh Central Bank has maintained its policy of buying gold.

Azerbaijani reserves remain stable

JUNE 5 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Azerbaijan’s foreign currency reserves inched up in May for the first time in a year, according to Central Bank data, suggesting that pressure on its manat currency had eased off. Like other countries in the region, Azerbaijan has been fighting to maintain the strength of its currency.

Kyrgyzstan’s gold reserve falls

MAY 27 2015 (The Conway Bulletin) – Kyrgyzstan’s gold and currency reserves have dropped to $1.8b, down from 2.1b in March 2014, media reported quoting the Central Bank chief Tolkunbek Abdygulov. The drop is due to Kyrgyzstan selling gold and cash to prop up its currency. Like its neighbours, Kyrgyzstan has been struggling to deal with a steep decline in the Russian rouble and the Russian economy.

Azerbaijan continues to buy gold

AUG. 27 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) — Azerbaijan continued to buy gold in July, news agencies quoted the IMF as saying, part of its stated plan to increase its bullion reserves. As well as buying gold, Azerbaijan has also said that it wants to increase its portfolio of property and currencies.
